Saturday night we attended a whitetail banquet in New Richmond. Ardisam sponsors the event and we went last year too. This year Graham won the sponsor prize...a new shotgun! Since he already had one, he gave it to Dylan! He was pretty pumped (even if it wasn't the white camo one he had his eye on).
We had a great night - it's fun to watch people win things and support a good cause!

Last weekend, our friends Monica and her boyfriend Tim were in town from Alaska to raise awareness about the dangers of Pebble Mine to Bristol Bay. They had put together a filming at Nezzy's on Saturday and a salmon dinner at Hilltop on Sunday!

If you are not aware of Pebble Mine or why they were raising awareness, Monica shared this information:

"Join Iditarod musher Tim Osmar and Cumberland, WI, musher Monica Zappa and their dog team on a tour to highlight the proposed Pebble mine’s threat to Bristol Bay, fishing jobs, and the Alaskan way of life. A monstrous open pit mine does not belong at the headwaters of the largest sockeye salmon run in Alaska (and the world). That’s why we’re running three dog sledding races to raise awareness about the dangers of Pebble Mine to Bristol Bay, in southwest Alaska. We think that people need to know about the amazing wilderness and salmon of Bristol Bay and why they should be protected now. We are excited to say that this tour is really taking off and we are thankful to Trout Unlimited for making it possible for us to spread a very valuable message. We attended the filming and the salmon dinner and it really opened our eyes. It was fun to get to see Monica and Tim again, and see their 29 sled dogs they brought with them!

We enjoyed live music, delicious salmon and were able to stock some fresh stuff for our freezer too! We wish Monica and Tim the best in their efforts!

jungle weekend - with all 3!

Last weekend I ventured to the cities to spend the weekend! After a great visit with Betsy & Macie (happy 1st birthday today little one!) I met up with Becky!

We went bowling for her friend Tara's birthday and had an absolute blast. And everyone thought I was a professional bowler with my splint. Winning.We stayed out incredibly too late, but had so much fun!

Annie came over on Sunday and Becky whipped us up an amazing breakfast! It was Annie's birthday that day and we spent the afternoon watching Bridesmaids, giving backrubs and enjoying our time together! This was the first time since college that Hippo, Raffie & Snuggles got to play in the jungle together...just the 3 of us. :)

On New Years Eve, we went to dinner at Hilltop with Joe & Erica.
Joe was a bit under the weather, but we still managed to have a great time.

Boo-boo was feeling left out with the "couples" pictures, so good thing wifey could stand-in from behind the bar :)

Nothing like a little blackberry brandy to cheers to the new year! Here's to saying goodbye to 2011 (which had it's fair share of ups and downs) and to seeing everything 2012 has in store for all of us (hopefully more ups than downs)!

ruppel christmas 2011

We celebrated our final Christmas with the Ruppels the week after. Mums got us all Eskimo pullovers and we LOVE them!
There certainly wasn't a shortage of presents...

And yes that would be the new 50" TV Graham got for me. Our old one bit the dust and I was quite surprised at this! Now I can watch all my trashy shows (The Bachelor, CSI, HGTV, FOOD Network, etc.) in style :)

By far the best gift of the night was this framed photo from Griff & Megs.

That would be Graham and Liz (Nate's wife) cerca 2000 as prom king/queen candidates. And that would be Nate and me with the sad faces. Megs found this in Griff's stuff when they moved. I can't determine if I find that creepy or sweet. Either way, you two better watch out for next year!

Bodde would not let anyone come near this present, even though it took him literally 43 minutes to open it.

Mums got a new bike!

And a new gun case to round out the present opening! We spent the night with a good meal, LOTS of laughs, a few rounds of Pictionary and some unforgettable Catch Phrase. Perfect ending to our Christmas season!

zuidema christmas 2011

The day after Christmas, we headed to my grandma's for the Zuidema celebration. The girls started off reading the Christmas story (with the help of the Precious Moments figurines) before we opened presents. When I was a little girl, I would help my grandma put up her Precious Moments Christmas village every year! So cute to see these girls carry on the traditions.
Then there were presents...and lots of them! My grandma still buys for everyone. That woman shops for months leading up to Christmas and you better believe she makes a list and checks it twice!

Grandma gave her girls these great Pampered Chef cookie sheets!

*love* her.

And Grandma received a Kindle! And then proceeded to question how in the world she was going to get it set up and use it. If she can figure out Facebook, I think she'll be ok :)

And Grandma's younger girls made everyone these little bags. So fun that they sew with her and she can help them learn those life skills. And we all benefit of the fruits of their labor! Last year we all got oven mitts.

We enjoyed a great meal and had so much fun catching up with everyone. Only 1 more Christmas recap to write and we can wrap up 2011!

We headed to Spicer for Christmas weekend! This was the first year in a long time we didn't have bad roads...and we were able to go to church with my parents on Christmas Eve (I don't think that has happened since college!)

Abby, Jason and Parker came Saturday night, and we opened a few presents then.

We surprised my parents with tickets to AZ in May for when my mom graduates with her Masters in Education!

Christmas morning we opened presents from Santa, and then watched Home Alone 2 while having one of our many snuggle parties :)

Graham and I celebrated our Christmas together the week before, since we were going to be out of town on Christmas weekend. We had a nice (and according to GR "the-best-chicken-ever-oh-my-gosh-you-NEED-to-make-this-for-everyone-we-know") dinner of stuffed chicken breasts wrapped in bacon. I may have blushed a bit, then proceeded to let him know it took forever to make :)
Then it was time for presents. Clearly someone was thrilled.

But then he got to go first.

And all was right in his world.

Berkley loved her raffie.

Mommy got some nice Coach bracelets.

And daddy received a deer ornament he actually opened a few years back.

Just kidding! It was actually a chest freezer to store all the deer meat!

We had such a great Christmas! This one felt the most "home" any of our previous ones have. Maybe because we are finally settled. Maybe because our stuff isn't scattered here and there. Maybe because we are just getting older and more appreciative? Either way, we feel extremely thankful and blessed!

Sunday was the Peterson family Christmas in Ellsworth!
Even though the Packer game wasn't on (and we lost), we enjoyed the day and our time together.

Got to meet Rachel's new boy, Blake :)

And it was great to see Sam too!

Aunt Jill had this great game that we played! You had to pass around a tupperware container with 2 dice in it. If you rolled doubles, you had to put the gloves on and try to open the box. The box was wrapped in many layers of wrapping paper and clear packing tape.

Don't be sad, Grandma...you might get another chance!

Everyone enjoyed getting in on the fun, even baby Bella!
In the end, Blake won the Subway gift card! I'd recommend this game for any family holiday party...it was a ton of fun and people really got into it.

Graham was the emcee and did a great job! From providing the music to the funny commentary to ensuring every moving part was transitioned correctly, Graham was the man.

I always love this party because you don't see many companies still putting things on like this for their employees. Everyone works so hard throughout the year, it's a nice time to reflect on all the good (and sometimes trying) times the business has had. Inspired by Pinterest (yes I finally joined this bandwagon thanks to Lauryn!) I created this custom artwork for our dining room!

These are all places or things related to Cumberland!

Graham was super impressed by my photoshop skills, as my other projects to date have been less than impressive. This space had been empty since we moved in back in July 2010, and we've slowly been adding things in. New table - check. New giraffe rug - check. New artwork - check! We had the Bruncliks and Skinners over for dinner on Friday night and it was fun to enjoy our new dining room!

berkley turns 3

Last Thursday on December 8th, Berkley turned 3!

She was the proud recipient of a beaver plubber toy (plubber = plush + rubber). Once it was out of the packaging, she was gone.

And we didn't see her for the rest of the night err weekend? All kidding aside, we did lose the dogs for an hour on Sunday. We had let them out before heading to see Mums and Dad in their Christmas Cantata. Well they took off in the back woods and would not come when they were called. Upon hearing gunshots, what sounded like an ambulance horn and barking, Graham and I ventured out, probably trekking over 2 miles, and could not find them. We finally met all our neighbors though! I had this suspicion they would be back at the house when we arrived home...sure enough, Berkley was barking like crazy and looking at us like "where were you guys?" About 5 minutes later Bodde appeared out of nowhere. Oh you two, never a dull moment!

Last weekend Cassie & Kevin threw one heck of a holiday party at their house!! The night consisted of charades, good food, lots of laughter, snow angels, keg stands, and one huge sleepover. Hope this becomes a holiday tradition! **yes I realize this photo is not the best, but I had to work with what we had!** LOVE this time of year!

We had such a great Thanksgiving weekend. Wednesday was the traditional "pub crawl", although as we've gotten older, we do a lot less crawling from bar to bar and find ourselves home much earlier :) We spent Thanksgiving day with the Ruppel's, and I headed home to Spicer for the rest of the weekend while Graham went back up north to the hunting camp. I really cherish the time I get to spend with my family each year during Thanksgiving. We enjoyed lots of laughs, good meals, played many games of Jokers, slaved away at craft projects, baked up some yummy holiday goodies, and did lots of snuggling with these three.
I stayed an extra day this year and even got to have a coffee date with my grandma judy. It was so great catching up and having that one-on-one time with her!! Another great holiday where we were extremely thankful for all the blessings we have.

Last weekend I went to St. Cloud to have our 2nd annual cousin weekend! We had a great time shopping, making yummy food, watching movies and catching up. I love these girls so much and really enjoy the time we get to spend together! Until next year Mr. Rodgers... :)
The other great thing about having girls weekend at Abby's is that I get to see this little munchkin.

Anyone wondering about these 2? You can usually find them curled up in the corner of the couch. If you can't find them there, check the upstairs bathroom (where one of them is usually trapped) or the basement (where one of them, ahem Berkley, is probably pulling beds out of the kennels and running around).

graham's buck

Graham shot a nice 8 point buck last weekend, right outside our house. Despite spending 5 hours in urgent care last Saturday morning because he had "something in his eye", an emergency visit to our eye doctor Saturday evening, and a 2 hour wait on Sunday morning for the pharmacy to open so we could get his Rx filled...he finally got a deer this season! We feel that after the weekend we had, it came as a nice sign of relief :)
Even though he had 2 abraisions in his left eye (shooting eye too!) he was able to shoot this deer, almost effortlessly. You'll have to ask him for the full story sometime. Nice work honey, our freezer thanks you.

We spent Halloween night at Lauyrn & Kirby's house! Since we live in the middle of no where and didn't get any trick-or-treaters last year, a date night with the Brunclik's sounded perfect (clearly I was excited).
Lauryn cooked up a strom and made these adorable (and delicious) individual pot pies.

And Todd and Sara mastered dessert. Fun night with fun friends!

We headed to the cities for Halloween weekend! K & Buddy were so nice to let us stay with them (and bring the pups!) and we had such a fun time. We had set out to be a hockey player and a tourist, when Buddy had the genious idea that we were a canadian couple on our first trip to the states. Genius. Canadian hockey player and his wife (although I imagine those canadian hockey wives are a LOT more attractive than I am!)

Last weekend we headed to San Deigo to celebrate Becky's birthday!
I was in San Francisco for work the week before, so it was a short flight Friday morning! We went to Mission Beach for Fish Tacos and some fun in the sun.

spicer fall weekend

Yikes it's been awhile huh? Things have been busy to say the least...between a 10 day work/fun trip for me (including some exciting work news...more on that later!), trying to get projects completed around the house and sick dogs, we've been busy! I'll try to catch you all up over the next few days.

We headed to Spicer at the end of September for a weekend with my family! We had such a fun weekend. Papa put the boys to work with lots of projects - taking out the dock being the main one!
We also enjoyed an afternoon bike ride on the trails between Spicer and New London.

A couple weekends ago, our good friends Dan & Jamie got married!

The wedding took place at Dan's parents' cabin on Beaver Dam (which also happens to be the place Graham's grandparents used to own years ago!)
It was an outdoor wedding on the lawn overlooking the lake, and everything was perfect!

Last weekend, my parents came to visit! So we thought we'd take them to the coolest thing to do in western WI on a Saturday afternoon...CAR LAUNCH! I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves.

We had a really good time (at least I hope my parents did haha!) We rounded out the day with a stop at Nezzy's and a BBQ out at our house. It was so nice to have them here for the weekend. It's always so hard to say goodbye to them though. I love them both so much and I hate that I don't get to see them as often as I'd like to. If I could only get them to move closer... :)

GAP pontoon party

A couple weeks ago, Lauryn and I planned the GAP pontoon party! We are the chairs for this committee and the night turned out to be great. We tied the three pontoons together and spent the night on Beaver Dam. (don't judge thinking this looks redneck, you aren't going to know what hit you with the post I've got coming up next!)

It was a perfect night, which ended with a beautiful sunset!

beginning of august update

So when it's been awhile since we (or I - that's me Kellsey) have blogged, it could be because a) we haven't done a darn thing and are sitting around on our butts. b) steve has held us hostage and cut off all lines of communication. c) work has been insanely busy and I hardly find time to squeeze a run in, let alone blog. I'll let you decide the correct answer.

Anyway, back to the update. Graham finally got his 4-wheeler! You might remember what happened to the old one, so GR was pretty excited to finally find one after months of searching.
Dylan has been in town quite a bit this summer, and it's been so great to spend time with him. We got him some stuff for his bow for his birthday, and he came over the other weekend to get it set up!

Mums' three boys :)

They spent the day/night shooting off our deck and in our backyard. Side note: I was mowing the lawn the other night, for the first time ever since we moved in a year ago (not that I don't want to, GR always does it!), and that deer scared the crap out of me!)

We also went tubing down the Namekagon River a couple weekends ago. Let's just say we had an amazing time and leave it at that.

These two are doing great! Bodde finds his way into the swamp every.single.day and I find myself giving him a bath with the hose just as often. His favorite hobbies include: sunbathing, sleeping, swamping and snoring (not necessarily in that order). Berkley is still crazy and looks more and more like the cat from Shrek. Enough said.

What about Steve? Glad you asked. Said crazy dog that was just mentioned split his nose open. He's in the "waiting room" for surgery, along with about 3 other toys, so for now he's retired to the top of the cabinets. He's hoping to make a comeback before Rutabaga, but only time will tell.

national night out

Tuesday night was National Night Out! The Cumberland GAP puts it on, and Lauryn and I are on the committee for this event. I don't know if I've talked much about Lauryn on the blog, but she is a new chiropractor in town and has become one of my very good friends! She sponsored the bounce house and it was a hit!

Lauryn and I were the Bounce house "bouncers" all night :)

It was a fun night and the kids had a blast!

Last Saturday we took a stretch hummer limo to the Brewer/Astros game in Milwaukee! We were part of a group supporting ovarian cancer awareness and we painted Miller Park teal!
There were 20 of us in the limo and 30-some on the party bus.

We went with Griff & Megs and Jill & Jason (Megan's sister and her husband).

Even though we didn't know many people going into the trip, you quickly become friends when confined to a tight space for 5 hours :)

We stopped in Wisconsin Dells for lunch at Pedro's on the way down where we enjoyed some great mexican food and a McLovin' look-alike.

Once we finally arrived, we tailgated!

As part of our "fee", we were had a tent equipped with food and drinks!

It was a hot, hot day - but we had a great time.

It was awesome to have everyone in teal shirts to support ovarian cancer awareness!

Last week I was able to spend a night with my BFF shan! We enjoyed happy hour at some of Rochester's finest establishments...

...made friendship bracelets, had sushi & wine, and enjoyed catching up and snuggling on the couch. I love this girl so much and our friendship is definitely "real" in every way.

Thanks for a great night, shan! You truly are the FFB a tews could ask for :) Until our next adventure together...(which could very well be "Best Friends" week on Wheel of Fortune - complete with matching shirts and friendship bracelets!)

4th annual dick ruppel scramble

Saturday was the 4th Annual Dick Ruppel Scramble! All of the proceeds that are raised go directly back to the Cumberland Golf Course.
After a couple hour rain delay, we had a great time golfing!

Raffle prizes are always a fun way to end the scramble. This years winnings: Bubba keg and a Knockdown Creeper. I bet you can guess who won what.

We ended the day with Herb cooking up some delicious chicken and pork on the grill for dinner. Another successful event!

Our friends Ryan and Erica got married on Friday night! Graham and Ryan were roommates at SCSU and we met Erica after they started dating.
It was such a beautiful wedding, filled with lots of love. You could just see and feel their happiness and love for one another!

The weather was great (a little hot but no rain!)

Erica looked so beautiful - absolutely stunning!

And Ryan didn't look to bad himself either.

They had taken dance lessons and their first dance was so cute!

My date was pretty handsome himself as well :) We had a great night celebrating with friends and rocking the photo booth! I so wish we would have had one of those at our wedding! Congrats to the newlyweds!

A couple weekends ago, we headed to Ellsworth for part of the weekend! Mark & Mums were horseriding with Ronnie & Jill and Eric & Debb, and Jeff & Steffi were in town from CA! While we didn't go on the big horseride they did, we did get to go for a mini horseride of our own on Friday night!

Oh boy, did we have a fun 4th of July weekend! We headed to the cities on Friday night for the Brewer/Twins game. The weather was absolutely nuts and the game was delayed 2 hours. You know what that means - more time for pregaming!

Ohhhhh we had such a fun time spending the weekend after we got back from the family reunion with my family in Spicer! It was quite a busy June, with the family reunion, a work trip to Boston for me and being home for literally 48 hours between June 12 and June 27 -- needless to say we enjoyed our time relaxing at the lake!

ruppel family reunion 2011

We were happy to be able to spend a week in June with the Ruppel family in Kentucky! It was an amazing week, filled with lots of family fun, food, exercise and relaxation. Oh and we celebrated our 2 year anniversary too :)

We were celebrating 3 anniversaries, a high school graduation, an upcoming master's degree, birthday's and I'm sure I'm missing something. After all the planning and traveling - Halleluja! Thank goodness it all came together and we can relax - Amen!

Wow, can't believe our last post was almost a month ago! We've been pretty busy lately, but we'll try to get everyone (hi mom!) up to speed in the coming days! A few weekends ago, a bunch of our SCSU friends (even if they aren't from SCSU, we all seem to refer to this group as that!) were in Turtle Lake for the weekend staying at the Fick cabin. We were excited to meet up with them for the night! We had dinner at the Hotel bar and of course had to try out the shotski!

We had such a great Memorial weekend this year! We stayed in Cumberland and we're happy to have Klair and Laycee come and stay! It was so great to see these two and reminisce about our old roommate days in St. Cloud and tear it up like the good old days! I truly cherish these two and love that we got to spend time together! The "Laker" is a free summer insert to the Cumberland Advocate that was running a contest for photographs taken on local lakes throughout the summer. Photos used in the Laker would receive a free subscription to the Advocate for a year. We thought that our cute dog childern gazing out into the open waters of Beaver Dam would be sure to land us a free weekly paper in the PO box...guess we were wrong. Sadly, the above two photos were not selected.

We took Wednesday off this week to head to the Twins game!
They played the Tigers and although it wasn't a sunny day, we still had a great time.

Our friends Lauryn and Kirby have awesome season tickets and since they hadn't sold them, we were able to sit in them for the second half of the game! It was awesome!

Even though the Twins lost, it was a great game and we enjoyed playing hookey for the day :)

Bodde and Berkley surprised me with golf balls and a new Brewer's hat. Those two are SO thoughtful :) What a lucky boxer momma I am! We had a perfect day! Woke up and got a nice walk in before church, then headed to eat with the Peterson side. We ended the day with a round of golf with Mums and Dad in the rain and a night of snuggling on the couch. We missed being able to celebrate with my mom, sister and the other grandma's, but we know they still felt our love from afar!

This past weekend we went to the cities to celebrate Parker's 6th birthday!! We hadn't seen him since Christmas, so you can imagine how excited we were to get to spend two days together!!

We went mini golfing at Mall of America and had a blast!

I can't believe how much he is growing!

We had so many laughs! And mom and I each got a hole in one!

After mini golf, we went to Nickelodeon Universe to ride some rides! We went on the Log Chute and made GR ride in front. He got a little wet!

Next up were the bumper cars. I think Graham and I enjoyed this more than Parker!

After the rides, we checked into our hotel at the Water Park of America and opened presents!

Look at all those great new toys and clothes!

We had so much fun at the water park. Note to other families that ride the "big tube" ride...it is only meant for 5 people, not 6. You will feel like you are going 100mph, someone might almost fall out, there will be lots of screaming and another someone might have to sit down immediately following the ride to rest for a bit! Happy Birthday bud! We enjoyed all the time we got to spend with you and love you VERY much!

Last Saturday we had Caitlin's bachelorette party! Everyone wore black dresses and unique hats! Last Sunday was a "meet and greet" open house for baby Macie!

cumberland GAP ice fishing contest

Last Sunday was the Cumberland GAP Ice Fishing Contest! (GAP stands for Good Ambitious People if you were wondering). Anyway, I volunteered to sell tickets from 7-10am and had a blast! Graham fished in the tourney and caught one, but it wasn't big enough to win.

There were so many people out and about, it was so fun to see everyone!

Janelle and I got some quality time in and went for quite the walk on the lake!

This isn't even the half of the vehicles and people on the lake.

There was even a plowed road, that we teased was like 494. There was even a cross-town and spaghetti junction! What a fun and BEAUTIFUL day! The sun was shining and I swear it put everyone in a happier mood :)

Can I just say that I have the most amazing husband ever? I came home from work yesterday to find these beauties on the counter. Along with a subscription to Women's Health and a card that had a picture of cupid farting and inside it said "love is in the air" (for those of you that know Graham, it was totally fitting!!) We had a nice dinner and caught up on the DVR.

I had sent Parker and my sister a little Valentine treat in the mail! A puppy for Parker from Bodde and Berkley. And of course...KITTY! Thanks for sending the pic, Ab. We hope you all enjoyed your Valentine's Day just as much as we did!

SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!!!! Wow. There aren't even words to describe the feeling every Packer fan had running through them as the Packers won the Super Bowl. Ahhhmazing! We think it had something to do with the collars the dogs got from Mums for Christmas? Maybe not, but these two (Matthews & Pickett) "watched" the game and we are sure they cheered them on! We went to Rob & Angie's to watch the game, but left the TV on for the pups so they could see Aaron Rodgers take home the title belt and MVP! We've celebrated their last two wins at some great football parties (true WI style I might add).
Packer vs. Falcons game at Joe and Erica's!

It is completely normal to jump around, scream, dance, kiss your neighbor, etc. when the Packers score a touchdown.

And be sure to take time for friend shots!

Dogs make great mascots and inspiration. Especially if they are wearing Packer gear as well.

Things can get sketchy if their are bad plays or calls. But we always make up in the end (unless the Packers lose, then we usually leave angry.)

We haven't been up to much lately. Besides wrecking our toys...

In all honesty though, we haven't been up to much. GR and I are both extremely busy at work (like we spend our weeknights sitting at the dining room table on our laptops all night busy). It's all good though and we are hoping to get away in March for a nice, sunny vacay. Other than that, Berkley is still squirrely and whiney and sits on Bodde all the time, Bodde is still old man river and hates the snow and cold, GR has been trying some new micro-brews and hasn't shaved in weeks, and I started putting together my 1,000 piece giraffe puzzle. So for the 5 readers that we have, that's pretty much us in a nutshell right now.

Saturday was the Rose Bowl at Nezzy's. Sadly the Badgers lost, but we still managed to have a good time.

After the game, we headed over to Steve and Cindy's for their annual New Years Day bonfire. We all bundled up and braved the cold for a bit, and then came in to play Outburst. And take prom photos.
